Vascular Biology, Imaging and Surgery

VASCULAR BIOLOGY, IMAGING AND SURGERY

Vascular diseases are very common in the western societies and constitute the main cause of mortality and disability.

The involvement of extra-coronary and extra-cranial vessels, known as peripheral vascular diseases, are the target of Vascular Surgery specialty, which deals with arterial, venous and lymphatic disorders.

The CCUL Research Unit of Vascular Biology, Imaging and Intervention aims to contribute for a better knowledge of pathophysiology, clinical and imaging characterization and treatment of peripheral vascular diseases. It takes advantage of the large clinical experience and the number of patients referred to a vascular surgery department in a tertiary hospital (CHULN) and of the expertise in the management of complex vascular diseases such as extensive aortic aneurysms and occlusive disease. The Research Unit strongly promotes a multidisciplinary cooperation between several medical and surgical specialties as well as with the research facilities established at the CAML.

International cooperation is expressed in the clinical and surgical relationships with two of the main european centers in the treatment of aortic diseases (Nuremberg and Maastricht), in the participation in international clinical trials, in regular fellowship programs of our residents in european centers as well as in surgical proctoring activities of members of our center in other countries.
